UX / UI / PROTOTYPING
Inconvo is an interactive chat platform built around the content people love — from TV shows to pop culture — letting users engage with scripted, human-made quizzes and conversations across 100+ channels.
Originally built on Facebook Messenger, the platform outgrew it when Facebook's policy changes limited their freedom and added costs. The decision was made to build their own platform from scratch — across iOS, Android, and responsive web — creating a seamless, device-agnostic experience that retained their existing user base while opening the door to a much richer product vision.
Brought in as the only designer on the project, the role covered everything from early vision and discovery through to MVP delivery, post-launch iterations, branding, and app store assets.
Working directly with stakeholders and the development team, the process spanned UX strategy, UI design across 3 platforms, prototyping, design-to-dev handover, and future product roadmap design — all while keeping the fun, fast spirit of the brand intact.
Challenge
Migrating millions of users from Facebook Messenger
Solution
The platform had built a user base in the millions on Messenger, and any new product needed to retain them without causing disruption. The priority was replicating existing functionality closely for MVP so users wouldn't notice a jarring change — while laying the groundwork to surprise them with improvements over time.
Challenge
Designing one experience across three platforms
Solution
iOS, Android, and responsive web all needed to feel consistent while respecting each platform's own interaction guidelines. The solution was to maintain a unified visual design and aesthetic across all three, with subtle platform-specific adaptations to keep interactions feeling native and familiar on each device.
Challenge
Onboarding without forcing registration
Solution
Getting users to sign up without alienating those who weren't ready was a delicate balance. The web platform was kept open by default — letting anyone try the chats freely — with sign-up prompts introduced only at meaningful moments, such as after completing a quiz or to unlock alerts and social features.
Challenge
Designing for content discovery at scale
Solution
With 100+ channels covering wildly different topics, the home screen needed to help users find relevant content quickly without feeling overwhelming. A modular, editorial layout was designed using familiar patterns — carousels, hero sliders, category filters — keeping discovery intuitive while leaving room for a more personalised experience post-MVP.
The project kicked off with a one-day vision sprint — mapping out features, flows, and the dream product before stripping back to MVP reality.
From there the work moved quickly and iteratively: UX flows, UI design across iOS, Android, and web in parallel, continuous prototyping in Principle to test ideas before involving development, and close collaboration with the dev team through handover and integration.
Post-MVP, the process continued with a second phase focused on social features, gamification, and a richer home experience.
