UX / PROTOTYPING

HP Sprout

HP (Native Design)

Not always is possible to be invovled in the creation of a new platform or device, when I started on this project I didn’t know how or when it was going to be released, many lessons learned in the way…now I’m happy is finally out there and HP continues improving the experience with new versions.

02Role

Prototyping & user testing.

Having worked on many projects involving WPF and Silverlight most definitely helped the team, as we managed to create a sprout-esque setup using 2 LCD touch screens to test and prototype some concepts and interactions.

03Key Challenges

Main challenges & solutions

Challenge

The concept of having a horizontally projected surface on a desktop computer with multi-touch capabilities was quite challenging, especially everything related to Microsoft Windows integration.

Solution

My experience working with Microsoft technologies like Windows Presentation Foundation or Silverlight were key to understand where this new layer of interaction would live within the operative system in Windows 8.

Challenge

Designing a new way to interact with your computer.

Solution

04Process

Exciting project beginning to end.

From the very early stages of the project, the whole UX team were exploring all the possibilities this new computer could offer to different kinds of users.

Thanks to this project I had the chance to visit HP headquarters in Sunnyvale in California (US) to assist their team during the user testing rounds as they were using the WPF demo I developed on this occasion.

05Outcomes

Available to anyone.

My experience working with Microsoft technologies like Windows Presentation Foundation or Silverlight were key to understand where this new layer of interaction would live within the operative system in Windows 8.

Extensive documentation was created, including many use cases, from Skype conversations to hand-drawing interactive apps and detailed storyboards illustrating stories about how this new computer could fit in the lives of families, businesses or creative individuals.
